As a teenager I began working in the Department Of Education for after schools and summer camps in Brooklyn, NY. It all started with joining a dance team in the afterschool, the dance coach their Ms. Afaliah, who was the greatest mentor and coach ever encouraged me to work their because I can go straight their after my highschool and get paid while learning how to work with kids and then start dance rehearsals from 6-9pm. The team there was lively and full of smart and very well rounded people like me. We got the chance to participate in so many competitions which we won and some we lost but it was a learning experience for us because it motivated us to keep pushing for more. We had to learn to quickly get in the game once we entered rehearsal but if our grades were not good we couldn’t participate in the team for a period of time. School was very important and I got to see that more and more as I worked with the children from my community and helped them in different specialties and their homework.
I grew a passion for working with children from the community events we would hold and helping out families as I genuinely love to help others out to make them feel welcomed and not excluded. I would normally instruct groups of children from grades Kindergarten to 6th grade. Some of the specialties I used to instruct were dance, gym, arts and craft, yoga, group games, healthy living and theater production.
Later along my college life I began to work for an afterschool where I was able to work alongside teachers who worked for tutoring middle school children grades 6-8 in the subject of ELA, it was composed by the great iReady program. We tutored them within the morning hours in the school and kept track of their progress to then meet with their teachers and create a plan for their in class work and homework to help these children pass their state exams and their classes in school.
Once I was working in a new school, I had the great opportunity to get hired as a Bilingual - Special Ed and behavior paraprofessional. I was even more passionate to start doing what I need to do to become a Special education teacher.
In 2021 I graduated from City College with my Art and Science Bachelor degree. Further on I got accepted to Metropolitan College of New York where I graduated with my masters in Special Education - Teaching grades 1-6 degree.
While beginning my masters degree program I was searching for a part time job where I was able to work after school hours again since I was working as a paraprofessional during regular school hours only but I needed an extra boost of income for school. That is where I was contacted by No Bad Weather’s founder Bostjan Brzin. After having my resume on Indeed as public view I was able to get emails back from others and I was extremely happy since the commute worked perfectly for me to get from the school I worked at to No Bad Weather to then some days travel to the city for my evening classes.
Gaining connections I made with the wonderful teachers and parents I have met all along the years has made me feel more confident that I can and I will achieve to have my own class one day to teach the children and their families the best that I can give them and more.
It all took a turn on me, when I actually found motivation to fully commit to work a full time job for No Bad Weather. I have had the time to plan with Bostjan a great program where I not only instruct the children on outdoor sports but also to give them an educational experience to reach their own full potential in what they need to learn from a daily week to what they can incorporate into the sport and school. Every child learns differently and at their own pace, and we can ensure that it is given with the proper tools and techniques.
